Volunteers Sweat It Out!

In the 100-degree Texas heat, there are two ways to stay alive. The first, and quite possibly the most intelligent, is to stay inside and turn the air conditioner on full blast. The other entails facing your foe and venturing outside in spite of the heat.

Fortunately, our volunteers have chosen the latter and can be seen several times per week laboring in the sweltering heat. With a healthy supply of shade, water, and breaks, we have had dozens of volunteers work to chop down and remove large amounts of invasive plant species in area parks.

Eco Texas is working to eliminate invasive species from environmentally sensitive areas by executing a coordinated effort with local park officials to monitor the threat of invasive species, and to take action to remove invasive plants when they pose a substantial threat. Jordan Sessler, the organization's Founder, says that these hot and humid workdays are “an important tool in fighting the threat of invasive species as well as staying in shape and working up a healthy appetite”.
